Margaret (Peggy) Adamo

Margaret (Peggy) Adamo is a public health analyst with the Data Quality, Analysis, and Interpretation Branch (DQAIB) of the Surveillance Research Program (SRP) within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). She is the Data Quality Team lead and represents the Data Quality Team as a member of the SRP Leadership Team. Her expertise is in the areas of cancer data collection, classification, quality, completeness, and timeliness, and cancer registrar training. Electronic health records and health informatics are among her professional interests. Ms. Adamo is first editor of the 2010 and 2011 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program Coding and Staging Manuals and second editor of the 2010 Hematopoietic and Lymphoid Neoplasm Case Reportability and Coding Manual. She is primarily responsible for the SEER Inquiry System and the SEER Training website, and is involved in the Hematopoietic and Lymphoid Neoplasm project.

Ms. Adamo received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Record Technology from Northern Virginia Community College in 1980, a certificate in Project Management for IT Professionals from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in 2007, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Studies from UMUC in 2010. Ms. Adamo is a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society, the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society, the American Health Information Management Association, the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA), and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). She has served as faculty for numerous educational and training sessions, and given presentations at NCRA and NAACCR annual conferences.

In her current position, Ms. Adamo collaborates with several cancer surveillance partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Program of Cancer Registries, the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, and the NAACCR. She is a member of NCRA's Informatics Committee and NAACCR's Semantic Data Work Group, Volume II Work Group, Tumor Linkage Work Group, and Program Committee. Before joining NCI, Ms. Adamo was the Senior Medical Data Specialist at Westat, Inc., and was involved in numerous NCI studies, including the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial.
