Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program

Authoritative source of information on cancer incidence and survival in the U.S. Routinely collects data on patient demographics, primary tumor site, tumor morphology and stage at diagnosis, first course of treatment, and follow-up for vital status.

SEER-linked Virtual Tissue Repository (VTR) Pilot Study

Underway as of October 2015 with 7 SEER registries to obtain custom annotations of detailed treatment data for pancreas and female breast cancer cases who may have biospecimens available. The goal is to match cases with exceptional survival and controls with more typical survival.

Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET)

A consortium of NCI-sponsored investigators that use statistical modeling to improve our understanding of cancer control interventions and their effects on cancer incidence and mortality.

Cancer Prevalence and Cost of Care Projections

Projections of cancer prevalence and costs of cancer care through the year 2020.

Native American Initiatives

NCI supports several projects among Native-American populations, largely in collaboration with its Network for Cancer Control Research Among American Indian/Alaska Natives Populations.

Natural Language Processing (NLP)

SRP has initiated pilot studies to evaluate a variety of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools for extraction of information from pathology reports and other clinical documents. These pilots are part of broader goals to enhance cancer surveillance through NLP facilitated case abstraction, to conduct large scale quality assessments of SEER data, and to acquire more detailed diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes data for research.

Small Area Estimates for Cancer-Related Measures

State, county, and health service area estimates for smoking prevalence, mammography use, and Pap test use, based on two national surveys.

State Cancer Profiles

Characterizes the cancer burden in a standardized manner to motivate action, integrate surveillance into cancer control planning, characterize areas and demographic groups, and expose health disparities.
