Katie Akif has joined the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Surveillance Research Program (SRP) in the Office of the Associate Director as a Public Health Advisor. Katie will be working as a project manager overseeing SRP projects across all of the branches as well as acting as an SRP Leadership Team coordinator and liaison for the program’s strategic planning efforts.
Prior to joining SRP, Katie rotated through EGRP, HDRP, and BRP. Katie was also a Research Coordinator at Westat for the Children’s Health Exposure Analysis Resource (CHEAR). In this role, Katie had multiple responsibilities, including managing the workflow of CHEAR projects and Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) projects; coordinating logistical aspects, and providing administrative support for CHEAR meetings; and maintaining records of CHEAR publications and outreach efforts.
Katie received her M.P.H. with a focus in Epidemiology from George Washington University in 2017. While completing her M.P.H., she was inducted into the George Washington University chapter of Delta Omega. Katie also worked as a Public Health intern at the Children’s National Medical Center where she was able to preliminarily evaluate the Pediatric Emergency Department enhanced Sexually Transmitted Infection program.
Katie also earned a B.S. with honors from the University of Arizona, majoring in Microbiology and minoring in Chemistry.
