Trish Murphy joined the Surveillance Research Program (SRP) in 2015 after serving as a Program Analyst through Kelly Services since 2012. Trish also worked at NCI from 2004 to 2006 as a full-time summer Cancer Research Training Award fellow at SRP, where she assisted with the calculation of cancer incidence, mortality, and survival rates. Now the SRP Communications Team Lead, Trish manages the @NCICancerStats Twitter account and works on other communications projects such as newsletters and Did You Know? videos.
Trish holds both a BA in Psychology and an MS in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Maryland. Her previous work experience includes positions as a chemical dependency counselor and Assistant Director of Clinical Services at the Kolmac Clinic, an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility in Towson, Maryland. As Assistant Director, she supervised 10 clinicians in providing therapeutic interventions and established a graduate-level externship program in partnership with Loyola University Maryland. Due to this experience working in the field of addiction, Trish is interested in pairing cancer statistics with take home messages for the general public (e.g., statistics on how quitting smoking decreases one’s risk of lung cancer).
